Types of Hauntings

 

Residual Haunting – A residual haunting is the most common type of haunting people encounter. Basically a residual haunt is just a playback of a specific event over and over from the past. There is actually no spirit present just the past energy from the spirit remains. There are many theories as to why the energy remains but no one really knows for sure. A spirit or ghost will not interact with anyone; they will just continue living out a particular segment of time. To simplify things think of rewinding a movie or audio clip and playing it over again. The energy is somehow trapped in a particular area and periodically releases and this is when the event is replayed.

 

 

 

Intelligent Haunting – An intelligent haunting is where a spirit of ghost is aware of their surroundings. They have not moved on to the other side. For what ever reason the spirit has decided to remain earthbound and are usually free to move around from place to place. Ghosts or spirits of this nature will often try to interact with human beings, but they are limited as to what they can do. They will sometimes move small objects, make noises or sounds, or even touch someone just to let their presence be known. These type of spirits of ghosts usually retain their personality after death so if they were nice people, they will usually present themselves in the same manner, the same can be said if they were not so nice or a practical joker or mischievous. Most times it has been found that the spirit simply needs help with something before they can move on and as a result they will try to communicate this to you in some way. Unfortunately this usually frightens people and no help is ever offered and this causes the spirit to remain.

 

 

 

Poltergeists – Poltergeist is a German word for noisy ghost or spirit. In a situation of this type of haunting you may encounter loud noises or banging on the walls. Items may move around a room. Doors my open and close on their own. Lights may turn on and off. Voices may emanate from nowhere. This is typically one of the scariest type of haunting people may encounter. Some researchers have found that this type of activity will sometimes center on a specific person in the household and if this person is not present the activity stops. Another connection has been made to teen age adolescent females. Sometimes due to the high emotional state of these people, the activity is actually created by the people themselves without even knowing what they are doing. In this type of situation a form of telekinesis or psychokinetic abilities are formed whereby a person is able to move items with psychic energy they are creating themselves. A viscous cycle starts to form. As the activity progresses, they become more stressed out and emotional this in turn causes more poltergeist activity and the cycle continues. Once the cause of the activity is determined to be a particular person, with proper counselling and professional assistance, the activity usually will subside quite quickly. Finally poltergeist activity can also be caused by several intelligent spirits gathered in one area. If this is the case and poltergeist activity is on going, they are usually pooling their energy together to get your attention because they are upset with something. If this is the case, by trying to get to the cause of their dismay and helping them will usually quell the activity.

 

 

 

Demonic Haunting – is one of the rarest types of haunting you may encounter. Demons date back to biblical times. Demons are not human nor were they ever human. It is important to know the difference. A human spirit is not very strong and offers little physical threat to people on the other hand a demon has no human values and is very capable of causing injury to people. Demons are very strong and there have been reports of people being grabbed, punched, kicked, scratched, choked, and even thrown through the air. Demons have no basis of time. What I mean by that is that time means nothing to a demon. A demon can hang around as long as it wants and harass as long as it wants. Demons will usually try to break down a person will of self being to try to make way for physical possession. Demons are dangerous and must be dealt with properly by well trained people in a religious fashion. It is important to get to know the signs quickly and to get help as quickly as possible. A demon can manifest themselves in anyway they want. Most times people will report sudden smells of sulphur or rotten meat or flesh. Sometimes sounds like a growling dog may be heard as if it is coming from everywhere at once. Serious poltergeist activity may be observed. Physical injury to people from unknown forces may happen.
